Poetry.

"Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquillity"
William Wordsworth

I have recently been enjoying reading more and more poetry. I wanted to share with you my small collection of poetry books, which is growing now all the time!

100 Favourite Poems by Classic FM

I absolutely love this collection of poems by Classic FM. It has all of the most famous poems that everyone needs to read. Some of my favourites from this collection include My Last Duchess by Robert Browning (pictured), When you are old by W.B. Yeats and Remember by Christina Rossetti.

The Sonnets of William Shakespeare

At the moment i have to read these out of my enormous complete works of Shakespeare! Of course, on of my favourites is 18 "Shall I compare thee".

Little Black Classics Poetry

These LBCs are the perfect dose of a poet and i love them. As well as the three pictured here, I have one by John Keats. Of the Rossetti poems, I love Goblin Market and A Birthday. From the Hardy collection, my favourites are The Voice and Shut out that Moon. I have yet to read the Bronte, but from the Keats collection (The Eve of St Agnes), I like Lamia, a narrative poem.

Lord Tennyson

Tennyson is definitely one of my favourite poets, and from this Everyman's collection, I love In Memoriam 50, The Outcast, part 3 of The Lady of Shallot and Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal..

That concludes my little poetry collection!

My Little Black Classics Collection

When I first saw these adorable little books in Waterstones, I knew I was going to need to buy a few..... 12 books later, and I think I finally have all the ones I want. (Well that is until I go into Waterstones again and see another one that I want!)
However, if I ever think that maybe twelve books from one collection is too many, I remind myself that they are only 80p each! 80p!! When else will you get top notch literature for less than a pound? Better grab the opportunity while its there.

I haven't read all of these yet, but so far my favourites have been:

1. A pair of silk stockings by Kate Chopin.
A bought this one because The Awakening by Chopin (which I have since read) was on my to-read list, and I wanted a little introduction to the author. This short story collection is great! The stories are short, yet beautifully written and each one is thought provoking and poignant.

2. Lord Arthur Savile's Crime by Oscar Wilde
All I have to say about this was that it was really funny! Anyone who loved The Importance of Being Earnest will enjoy this.

3. Goblin Market by Christina Rossetti
This is a lovely introduction into Rossetti's poetry and is a lovely collection of beautiful poems.

Thats all for my first blog post! Please feel free to comment any post suggestions!
